At one influence, it could see some use in a Chronos Protocol deck that focuses on trashing icebreakers, usually from the runner's grip using net damage. Kala Ghoda Real TV can perform a similar function by using its trash ability to trash icebreakers from the top of the runner's stack.

Great damage protection in Apex, but keep in mind that using Apocalypse will turn Heartbeat facedown, making you vulnerable to damage such as Scorched Earth immediately afterwards, assuming the Corp can land a tag or you're floating tags.

Can Heartbeat trash itself to prevent one damage?

I think so

Playing an Apocalypse would also turn all the corps cards facecown, leaving all of their tag based effects on the board inert. While yes, you are still vulnerable to things like SEA source that can be played from hand, most corps will be desperately scrambling to protect their centrals that have been left wide open from the Apocalypse, and won't have the resources ready to land a well timed tag on our favorite sentient malicious AI.
