J:TI v3: 8–1, Top 4 Seattle Regionals

Baotus 127

Took a retooled version of my Portland deck to Seattle. I was worried about the 60-minute rounds, but didn't have too much time trouble this time around.

Went 5–1 in Swiss; the loss was due to an awful mulligan. Went 3–0 in the late-night elimination rounds, i.e. I beat a bunch of folks who were half asleep.

Out of the 8 games I won, 7 of them leaked 5 or 6 points along the way. Hooray for the new scoring format.

So anyway, the changes since Portland were to remove a bunch of traps and focus on early ice. Paper Wall and Himitsu are good early ice and can also be used later to destroy your remote if you need to — you can often rush HoK and NAPD early. Midori helps you take the known price tags off a fully rezzed server and keep the guessing game alive, and can work well to bump hosted programs/counters sometimes. I never used her to whip out an Inazuma over an Archer, but then I also never used RSVP to stick the runner with a FAI or NAPD they couldn't score. Oh well.

The worst thing that can happen with this deck is if you get stuck permanently with bad pub. It happens every now and then. Then again, that can also lead to a Philotic kill that much more easily.

I don't think the deck is necessarily top-tier — during practice games for Regionals, it didn't hold up well during repeated games against Andysucker with Security Testing — but it worked well as a mystery deck. I don't think people expect Archers out of Jinteki just yet.

People can see archers because of Clones. That's a very very well build deck !

I would try Unorthodox instead of Clones maybe. If you can score one with Tennin's ability or ToL, you can score something behind or have another Tennin counter free. Tsurugi... Not fully sure of it vs parasites ; why no Swordman, because of EtRs ? It doesn't combo more than that after Komainu because they'll jack out, Inazuma won't make the bridge too.

Ouroboros would be very fun there too but no more inf :)

Maybe I would do this : - 2 archers (fao risk) - 2 tsurugi (parasite risk) + 1 ouroboros (or snoop) + 2 rototurret + 1 swordman (or whirlpool)

Janus with Inazuma would work too but is not a really good idea there.

I don't particularly follow your second post regarding ice selection; you're not writing terribly clearly, but feel free to rephrase. I have thought about chaining UPs as a way to chain-score, but didn't have time to test the concept and it'd probably be quite a different deck. Similarly, I would be reluctant to take out the 2/1s unless I was taking out Archer, and that's also a very different deck.

Swordsman: I'm not too worried about AIs in this deck. There are a lot of answers here to the most common AIs except Crypsis, who usually hangs out with Mimics or Femmes anyway.

Parasites haven't been a terrible problem for me, and if anything they made me want to run more low-strength sentries rather than fewer (see my Portland deck). I have zapped a lot of clone chips and Levies with net damage in this deck, and Shaper generally hasn't been a bad matchup.

Snoop would be an interesting use of RSVP's inf; I also tried Reclamation Order with mixed, mostly positive results, but went for ice #20 instead to avoid bad openings and to give early NAPD scoring a chance. shrug Snoop is yet another expensive ice, but I like the idea. I suspect that Reclamation Order would be a good choice for repeat games against opponents who have the deck totally scouted.

I had great moments with UP, especially vs Rielle :

"- Codegate. - Nooooooooooo..."

:)

UP is made for Tennin, beleive me.

Snoop / RSVP : RSVP protects you for Fetal and NAPD. It's very fine in your deck. You could also use it to protect very efficiently a Caprice, which you can see as an (unreliable) ice if you want to.

Ichi instead of Archer? With Inazuma that works well.

I'm trying to remove Celeb too, because the bad side is your telling what you can do. I will test NeoTokyo, Commercialization and Succesfull Demo too.

The UP instead of clones works very, very well. I love this deck !
