Previous reviews point the two first effects of Assimilator :

  1. Install non-virtual resources : Aesop's Pawnshop, Film Critic, etc.

  2. "Rez" for FREE

- Programs : Morning Star, Mass-Driver, etc. - Hardwares : Blackguard, Security Nexus, etc. - Resources : Rachel Beckman, Hades Shard, etc.

Want to add the missing part : 3. Bypass "when install" restriction

Cause facedown cards do not have name, type or subtype, and their abilities are not active; you can install and "faceup" them without their "install" restriction.

CyCy needs confirmation as well. It can only be used on the chosen server. Since it is never installed, the server is never chosen, so there is no chosen server it can be used upon. Without an official ruling, I'd say CyCy can not be used at all if you use Assimilator to bring it into play. —
You convince me ! If CyCy work, i am gonna use chameleon with no named subtype xD —
Pretty sure that Assimilator doesn't work the way you want with chameleon. I could be wrong, but the difference seems to be where the linked ability references the thing named on install. CyCy sets up a restriction tied to the named object. Since there's no named object, the restriction is null and void, and CyCy can be used with impunity. Chameleon, on the other hand, sets up an ability that is dependent on the named subtype. With no named subtype, the ability becomes null and void, and chameleon becomes 1 credit: <nothing> —
Agreed. CyCy interaction makes sense and Chameleon unfortunately does not work with Assimilator. —

Perfect synergy with Bandwidth ! It subroutine's become :

Give the Runner 1 tag. If this run is successful, the Runner removes 1 tag and the Corp MAY draw 1 card.

And this card is not unique so you can stack them and draw up to 3 cards !

Note also it's a "may draw" so no risk to mill yourself x)

A combo of two cards at 0 to install/rez, 3 to trash, 5 to break and 1 influence each; so 6 influence for 3 of each in a deck and six cards (that's the bad point). But now Sensie Actors Union is pretty unplayable, this can be a thing.

Breaking Bandwidth (not counting any MOD) cost 4-7 credits with some exception of course. A big tax to simply avoid you drawing 1 card (or 2 or 3 :)

So let's assume the runner let it fire (hello Mr. Stone i'm Chief Slee), the choice become:

  • let the corp draw (successful) and maybe let a Response in the Grid

  • or keep a tag (unsuccessful) and a spank xD

Note that if they take off the tag later by another way ... you still gonna draw !!!!!

And if they keep it, you know the story ;)

OK, now we saw how it work, let's see what we can do with that !

Asset ? Draw ? Tag ? Clearly, this cards belongs to an asset spam deck ...

So choose your weapon :

Now you catch my drift, build it !

It's certainly a neat combo. But 3 to trash isn't really that hard to do for the runner, though of course CtM helps make it more expensive. And once you make those tags become more meaningful than drawing a card the runner will be more inclined to pay the tax, making bandwidth taxing but not killing. So you can't really rely on it for tagging the runner. —
Zealous Judge is another reason not to let the bandwidth fire, btw. —

Since Earth's Scion was released i was looking this card thinking "it's something but i can't grab it".

First Thought was : use it for Apex: Invasive Predator

Second one was : use it to cycle an emtied program for a new fresh one ::

Then i realized, OH MY GOD ! London Library !!!

Do the math, please.

With both installed and a, let's say Femme Fatale or Garrote (all in faction) in your grip, you have ::

, : search and freely install whatever program you want from your stack :)

And that's work too if you have something in your grip and another copy in your stack !!!

Ok, now we have the engine, but what for ?

Remember that for two and the same card in your grip you can have for FREE :

Of course that's just an idea ... Time will tell if that is become a story :)

It's indeed an interesting combo. Not a top-tier combo since the pieces by themselves aren't that great but it could certainly help punch above your weight credits-wise. The major downside I see is speed. Setting up a combo takes time and criminals are typically strongest in the early game so you can't really afford to waste much time getting your breakers out. For criminals credits, on the other hand, are usually less of a problem due to a strong run-based economy. —
I got really excited about this card, but I struggled to find a situation in which I wanted to use it instead of Special Order. London Library is a great idea for this. Kudos! —
The reaction to this card is understated. This card affords a different approach to programs in deck design. This card is a sleeper. —
