NAPD Takeover

Who plays Embolus? Well -- nobody should. The card is terrible; so I'm going to play it anyway to put my personal spin on the Built to Takeover decks out there.

How do we go about making Embolus not suck, or at least pretend to not suck? At its best, its sort of a click tax as the runner can just do what he wants to anyway (that is run) to make it useless. So, lets pair it with another click-tax in MCA Austerity Policy, then put some candy in Archives, which should always be the easiest run.

The Plan

Start normal, like all good Built to Last decks should. Install and advance things a bit to setup your econ with the slow drip of the ID along with Mass Commercialization. This is a pretty normal start. Draw a bunch and hopefully dump at least 1 Space Camp into the bin.

The Spin

Toss in your Embolus, then at the start of your next turn, rez it, pay for it, and install an MCA Austerity Policy. They're going to laugh at you, as they should, then they're going to run archives. This is where those Space Camps go to work. You want to generate extra counters as fast as you can, and these do the job for you. I tossed in a Disposable HQ as well just in case that comes up you can bury your Government Takeover if it is in hand.

The runner will probably be able to get in and kill that first remote, but that's ok, you're just taxing them and holding off Apoc.

Next Step

Project Atlas. Get one scored with at least 1 counter on it, preferably 2. You can do this one of 2 ways: either the MCA if its around, or protect with the lockdown.

Final Curtain

Do your MCA assisted takeover thing. If Clot is a thing, then do it anyway and follow with an NAPD Cordon. I'm not sure most runners will have an extra 24 creds lying around after getting through your ice.

The Backup Plan

Its just a single Punitive, but the runner does need 4 agendas to win. You may be able to catch them on a double GFI archives steal, or if you're really lucky, they somehow don't have any points and score the Takeover. Almost certainly they're playing around punitive, so don't put too much effort into this.

Issues

Well -- there are many. The first is Omar, or rather his Rebirth. That guy sure knows how to ruin a party. The second is ICE destruction, which is advancement counter destruction. My answer to both of these is: "I'm playing an Embolus... who cares! If I wanted to actually win more, I would play the other version."

Very cool! I love it. Why not Spin Doctor?

well -- yeah. I could, and probably should. At one point I had 2 Disposable HQ and 2 Embolus, and figured my Takeover is safe at the bottom without a reshuffle. I then went to all 3 Embolus just cuz -- so now with only a single Disposable, it could easily be at least one spin doc. Then you could cut another Embolus for a 2nd doc, but you know... Embolus.
