The end of Big Ob: 3-2-1 @ Worlds

cablooshe 322

And so it ends.

I've been working on Big Ob since around the start of the year, when @TheKing played a similar list into me during the online Seattle Async Tournament. I brought this out to worlds as my final sendoff to the list, and while I did OK with it, I think this is the final iteration I'll be working on.

Consider this the retirement announcement. You might see me pull this out randomly on jnet or a small online tournament but I think this is the final iteration I'll work on. I highly recommend trying it out though, it's a blast to play, and when everything goes right, it feels like you're constantly pulling tricks out of a hat, pulling exactly the thing that you need. The only change I'd recommend is -1 Wave +1 Corporate Troubleshooter, it's far superior even if Wave can be fun to pull the 3rd Border Control to hand.

Lots of things I've learned with this deck over the last year, too many to list off, but I'll summarize the key points:

  • I learned a lot about deckbuilding making sure this was as clean as possible. Dealing with % of ice, trashables, econ, win enablers, and agenda density all at once has really helped me understand deck construction beyond just ob.
  • Skateboard tricks are so much fun to play and I'll be doing them in whatever deck I do. Big Ob is just shaper BS with a HUGE deck and on corp side. Love that.
  • This deck is the epitome of the Picard quote. Sometimes you just lose on random accesses and that'll be that. That's not bad play, that's just Big Ob.
  • Most importantly: If it's good but inconsistent, it isn't good.

Lots of people to shout out.

I went through a lot of iterations of this list, but the final variant had some help from @ksodiya, @smittyl, @abyssstaresback, and @runaway. We've formed a testing group and will be continuing to iterate on whatever we want to throw at the wall in the coming future. While our worlds performance didn't get any of us into top cut, I fully believe Janktinho will return next year with a vengeance.

@TheKing, I didn't get to say hi during worlds, but I want to shout you out specifically as the one who started me on this amazing Ob journey. It's kind of surprising how much time I spent on the idea this year, and your random big ob started that off for me. Huge thanks showing off a random jank list during a small tournament.

To everyone else in Seattle, y'all are the best. Netrunner is 100% the best card game out there, and a huge part of that is the community around it. Big shoutout to y'all who welcomed me in to play.

Big shout out to all those I met at worlds this year. Whether it's online or in-person, I hope to see you all again!

Finally, a big thanks to all the volunteers that helped make worlds an absolute blast. I'm extremely thankful to everyone that helped make it happen. Worlds has been an experience I won't forget. Hope to be there next year!

❤️

That Wave is my fault, sorry. It's a redundant tutor in a deck with a tutor ID.
