Paper Planes (Rivendell Store Champion)

Deck was 3-1 in Swiss and 2-0 in elims, and the 1 loss was totally the pilot's fault. And yes, it's yet another deck with Faust in it. I'm not 100% sure of the number of players, but it was on the order of 17 (there was a bye). 4 Rounds of Swiss and a cut to Top 4.

I built this deck because in the previous week I played 4 rounds of Swiss in a SC and saw nothing but NBN that my Jessminder deck couldn't keep up with. Obviously, as you might expect, I did not play a single NBN deck this week. Matchups were Chronos Protocol, EtF, PE (x2), Bluesun (x2). and Titan. The PE and Bluesun matchups were the same players, who made the Top 4 cut.

You'll notice some obvious similarities with spags's DLR Leela, though the win condition here is Medium digs. You generally spend all of your money installing cards and improving your board state so your Drug habit doesn't actually have any credits to take (ideally with a Daily Casts out). I actually find it a fun little puzzle trying to figure out how to be broke every turn, but maybe that is just me.

For the most part, you wait for them to score and bounce a piece of R&D ICE while Logos-ing for whatever piece you are missing (DDoS, Medium). Crack your DDoS and Medium, Medium, Medium. Bonus points if next turn you throw down a Fisk Investment Seminar and use those cards to Faust your way into a fresh R&D.

Some thoughts on specific cards:

Logos - The hand size is just great here. 6 cards in hand and a couple of Drug Dealers means you can threaten to get in almost anywhere. And as I mentioned above, the tutoring effect means that the combo comes together pretty reliably.

Easy Mark - Spags talked about this in his deck, but you are basically always broke. Getting from 0 to 3 in a click is a huge deal.

Employee Strike - Had this played against me recently and it was super annoying, so I figured it was a good 1 of in a deck with Logos. Could also be a DLR if you want to roll that way. Though I dunno, no way to get tagged besides Siphons and no trashing protection... but as an alternate win condition DLR is intersting. Regardless, I used Employee Strike to turn off Blue Sun, EtF, and PE and thought it was totally worth it. Really can ruin RP or Haarp's day.

DDoS - I took a DDoS Leela to Worlds (and admittedly did pretty poorly with it because it had significantly less Faust) so I've been on this train for a while, but it is an amazing card for her. Obviously DDoS + Inside Job is good times, but the fact is that people don't ICE R&D enough against Leela, and the bounce + DDoS almost always gets you in.

UPDATE: Currently working with -1 SOT and +1 Mongoose, which I think is a little safer. Also considering switching the Employee Strike for a Stimhack for when you NEED to trash something, but Employee Strike has been pretty clutch for me.

Deck name fails without Origami in list.

Cool deck though. I guess the way to pilot is not to run R&D so you can bounce the ice after a remote snipe / corp score?

A fair point about the name! It's not even a very clever reference.

I would say that you certainly don't want them rezzing ICE on R&D before you already have a few Medium counters, Faust, and 6-8 cards in your hand to start the turn. If you can Siphon them to zero and and run R&D that's all for the good (or something obvious like turn 1 Medium with no ICE on R&D). Generally I want them focused on defending HQ from siphons and scared of scoring with the Gang Signs/HQI threat. I will generally let them score unadvanced agendas early, especially if I have Logos and there is only 1 ICE on R&D.

What about -1 SoT +1 Kati Jones, for the games where you can't land Siphon reliably? Or is it too anti-crim-gameplan?

@Winterspring Interesting. Kati is another card that can skirt around Drug Dealer... I like it! Certainly SOT is not critical. It helps enforce a siphon lock, but that is not super common since people generally pile the ICE on HQ when they see you playing crim. On the other hand this is not a deck with a "long game" so perhaps Kati is pointless? But there have definitely been games where I've wanted to trash things but couldn't afford it. I'll give it a shot!
