Biotech for the future, Undefeated Top8 SC San Antonio

HoodedArcher 3

This deck went 4-0 two kills and two scores. This was the first ever netrunner event I attended. I had no idea what the meta would be like at my store so I just tried to prepare for what I thought would hurt the most. I have played casually in friend groups for about a year and a half. I got 8th place overall because I lost every runner game as paragon smoke which wasn't really unexpected for me I spent 1/8th of the time working and playing on runner than practicing biotech and I must say my Yomi game was on point. I love this deck so much. My main inspirations for playing this deck were ryanbantwins playing Coinflipteki at Dusseldorf and formerteen at worlds who really proved that this deck is nothing to laugh at.

ALSO HUGE SHOUTOUT to my boys in the netrunner discord server (@Dirjel @Mezuzi @Aowashi @mo0man) who gave me some good feedback and good discussion about biotech it was definitely mutual teaching about the deck and learning about some card choices.

Notes: Ronin is good because it exists and we want to take advantage of it existing by not playing it. Ronin is definitely a grey area between trap and agenda because it punishes them for not running similarly to scoring. Ronin is proactive in killing the runner but I think scoring is a better proactive method of victory so that's why I chose to play 0 but I don't think it's unplayable in a deck like this. Every turn you gain money is a turn you cannot make a trap play, good mushin play, or attempt to score, If you did you would lose a lot of value on your cards. Shell Corp gives you so much value and if you slap it right on a trap you mostly don't even have to worry about it ever leaving. Use a failed trap don't install with a mushin unless you want to fake it being a trap and try to sneak an agenda. Rezzing Shell corp and your trap after the trap has already failed is the best way to get around getting hit by a drive and losing your economy engine. If someone knows the matchup they will usually not run on unadvanced cards fearing Snare and Psychic Fields and you should only ever either of those cards on a mushin play but I generally advise against it. Psychic Fields is a 419 meta call primarily.

First Game: I played a Val, it was a short game. I can't remember their restricted card. I got hit with an apocalypse relatively early losing a trap server with Shell Corp and two ice. I won when my opponent(Val) ran on a 4 advanced Cerebral Overwriter and flipped my ID.

Second Game: I played a smoke player running E-strike as his restricted. I land a very early mushin CANP play and then star crediting up and pressuring the shell game. Shell corp gained me somewhere between 20 and 30 credits this game and really enabled me rez my big ice and apply constant pressure with repeated mushins. I ended up scoring out against because he played his cards very frivolously and ended up with not enough to steal Obokata.

Game three: I played Jesminder. This game was kinda a fluke because my opponent forgot my ID ability but he was the only opponent to score on me the entire time if I remember right.

Game four: I played a very experienced Val veteran who played the match up the best. Very early on I IAA Cereberal Overwriter just to test the waters and he checks it his third click. Shell Corp gets me tons of money which helps me make 3 mushin plays in a row using LPL. This time I got hit with apocalypse twice the first time losing 5 ice and Shell Corp + Junebug server and some other traps I can't remember. The second time I lost some traps and TFP that was mushined last turn. Eventually he ran out of cards from ignoring the shell game on the board and just hitting my centrals repeatedly. I ended up sneaking out a 4 adv obokata and a 3 adv obokata and kept drawing for CANP and one I got it in play I just scored out over the next two turns.

TLDR; This is pretty much the deck formerteen played at worlds but I added a bit of spice. My MCA informant and Komainu were the most lackluster cards here but if I did end up facing the dreaded Film Critic I would have been prepared.

Changes: Drop a MCA for a Data Loop or Archived Memories... or just drop both MCA and play those. You can cut a shell corp if you feel like it but I think I want to see it every game honestly no diamond why not?
