Azmari BoomTech - 1.1.1.1 Compliant - Undefeated GNK

gophers79 15

This deck went 3-0 in a 1.1.1.1-format Nisei GNK 1/21/19 at Fantasy Flight games in MN (my runner went 0-3).

If you're not familiar, 1.1.1.1 restricts the card pool you're allowed to build a deck from. You choose any legal ID to play with, and then your carpool to build from consists of one copy of the core set, one deluxe expansion, one data pack, and one playset of any other card. For this tournament, the first two cycles had rotated along with the original core set, and we could select either revised core or system core as our core box. MWL was not in effect, so cards like Temujin, Faust, Bloo Moose, etc. were all available choices for runners.

For this deck, I used system core, data and destiny, escalation, and hard hitting news.

I built the deck the afternoon of the tournament and was pleasantly surprised at how well it performed. Two wins were via BOOM! and I scored out against Apocalypse MaxX in the third game.

I always mulliganed for Scarcity of Resources, playing it on turn 1 and calling Event for the ID ability every turn. The combination really stifled the runner's economy, especially since in this format nearly all econ was either Sure Gamble or resources (Daily Casts, Liberated Account, Temujin Contract, Armitage Codebusting).

Agendas:

3x Global Food Initiative - this deck does pretty well at creating scoring windows. Especially in 1.1.1.1 format, runners don't want to give corps too much money, so they often end up making sub-optimal plays for fear of giving me 2. I think the right play is just to do what you need to do to money up early and worry about the corp after the fact. Either way, I scored out a couple GFIs behind Tollbooth-News Hound or something like that.

3x Project Beale - not much to say here.

1x 15 Minutes - I never scored this or had it scored against me. In the full legal card-pool version of this deck I may remove this in favor of Quantum Predictive Model

1x Explode-a-palooza - I was thinking about removing this in favor of two more QPM, but it did win me one game - I baited out a run through a Data Raven, sticking a tag and earning a power counter, with Explode-a-palooza giving me enough to BOOM! the next turn.

Assets

1x Daily Business Show - I installed this once and kept forgetting to rez it (great Netrunner player, here). I think it's worth keeping in the deck as filtering to find your BOOM! is great once you are able to stick a Hard-Hitting News.

Upgrades

2x Product Placement - This is a card I'll probably cut in favor of different options in the full cardpool. It did make me a bit of money, but I think that having more tag punishment options (Exchange of Information, etc.) would be a better use of the limited card slots in the deck.

2x Red Herrings - This never mattered, but there were plenty of times that it COULD have mattered. After you Closed Accounts a runner, it's an unbreakable Ash 2X3ZB9CY (with a 1 trash cost).

Operations

2x BOOM! - this was actually a late-ish add to the deck, and it won me two of the three games. It's pretty easy to stick tags with Scarcity of Resources (and System Core cards like Paragon and John Masanori) encouraging runs and Hard-Hitting News punishing them.

1x Closed Accounts - I'd like at least one more of these in the deck.

3x Hard-Hitting News - This is an important part of the plan. Would not change.

2x IPO - Helped get ahead and stay ahead in the money race.

3x Scarcity of Resources - this card was the MVP of the deck. It just squeezes Runner economy so much. Scarcity of Resources coupled with Azmari EdTech: Shaping the Future's ability puts pressure on the runner from turn 1 to make sub-optimal plays. I always mulliganed for this card.

1x SEA Source - I think this is right, and I think 1x is appropriate.

1x The All-Seeing I - I'd like another of these, I think. I used this to great effect after playing Closed Accounts to lock down one of my opponents, giving me time to dig through my deck for BOOM!.

Ice

2x Resistor- This was solid, might move to 3x. I was able to score out behind 1x of these after I was Apocalypsed and my opponent didn't have a way in.

2x Fairchild 3.0 - While this is a good ice, it was a concession to the format. I think I'd take these out and use the influence elsewhere (another BOOM!? Other damage cards like High-Profile Target?)

3x Pop-up Window - A lot of the ice in this deck is intended to punish the runner for runs. Pop-up Windows are great.

2x Tollbooth - this is the one big ice you can play and score out behind. Loss of 3 is a pretty bad face-check punishment.

2x Data Raven - Love this ice. Psychologically contributes to a "I'll have to go tag-me eventually" mindset, which is what you want, especially since you're not signalling that you're on damage.

2x News Hound - WOW is this good with Scarcity of Resources! Super value ice for just a 2 rez. Would like to have 3x in the full card-pool version of this deck.

2x Turnpike - Mini-Tollbooth. Face-check penalty with a tagging sub.

Changes I'd Make following the games:

Remove 2x Fairchild 3.0. Add 1x BOOM!. Add 1x News Hound. Remove 2x Product Placement. Add 2x IP Block. Remove 1x Resistor. Add 1x Data Loop.

Other considerations: I'd love another Closed Accounts. Maybe remove The All-Seeing I for it? Also would love another IPO. Remove 1x Red Herrings? Still have 3 influence to work with, should fit in more meat damage. Would like to find some bin recursion to get back BOOM!s that get trashed. Problem is slots.
