Code Gate Caverns

I enjoyed the "Barrier Bay" deck idea a little while back when CP first came out. It hit me a few days ago that I could possibly rework that idea and base it around Code Gates. I don't know if it'll work, so I'm posting this to see what others have to say. This is purely experimental, however, I'd love all the feedback I can get in regards to potential improvements. :)

I've run a partially similar deck based on grail ice, so I can say with confidence that you can make this plan work.

A few card choice thoughts, though:

I feel like Freelancer may as well be a blank card here because your only way to apply tags is if someone eats Ichi 1.0 or opts for the tag off of your singular Snatch and Grab. Are there particular resources you're concerned about ruining your game plan?

What's the rationale behind Clone Retirement? Part of the charm of this deck is being able to just lay agendas on the table and score with impunity because your ice in unbreakable, and scoring from hand isn't a big priority. Are you worried about Val with DLR? Because you aren't running anything with bad pub. Is it fodder for Archer?

You don't have any AI hate, which can ruin your gameplan but you have an easy answer with Swordsman in faction.

I love Targeted Marketing here, but it's hard to count on for economy, because the runner could just dig in their heels and choose not to play that card. Which might be as good or even better than having money! But your whole economy is operation based, which can be a little swingy making it difficult to keep money on hand for your pricier ice (Tollbooth, especially). Maybe consider either Sundew, or Mental Health Clinic, to get some drip economy going.

You've got Batty, so you can force some trashes instead of relying on runner mistakes, but I would consider making some room for Power Shutdown so you can have more control over sniping critical programs.

Proposed changes:

-2 Clone Retirement, +2 Chronos Project (so those cards stay dead)

-1 Freelancer, -1 Snatch and Grab, +2 Mental Health Clinic (I like this one cuz it's free to rez, and the runner might think long and hard about spending three to lower their handsize)

-1 Archer, -1 Tollbooth, +2 Power Shutdown (because Tollbooth is expensive for a deck with modest economy, and while Archer is awesome and trashes programs and can set up a impenetrable server, if your gameplan is working, even a lowly Engima is unbreakable and it doesn't cost you agenda points in a deck that is trying to score out to win)

Lastly, with these changes you'd be losing some precious end the runs, so maybe re-jigger your ice suite for more cheap ETR, and maybe some extra Cricks so you can cover your ass after a Power Shutdown.

Wow, great feedback...exactly what I was looking for, thank you Beerman! :)

I threw the Freelancer in for some meta hate (there's more that I'll explain as well). I absolutely cannot STAND DLR decks, and CP has virtually zero tech against it. If I keep seeing those and don't tech for them, I'll start pulling my hair out, lol. And yes, Clone Retirement was purely Val hate and also Archer fodder.

Leaving out Swordsman was purely oversight on my part. I honestly cannot believe I did that, cuz my last CP deck couldn't do without it. I've killed Faust at least a handful of times, if not more, so yah...gonna have to rework that little mistake.

Good observation on my econ, heh. Targeted Marketing is a great card which belongs in CP...and yah my credits come purely from Operations, but I'd rather have spotty econ than none at all...and that's what I'd get if I ran Assets and Whizzard got in my face. :) No one around me plays Edward Kim (except me), so I ain't worried about losing out on econ anytime soon.

I guess you could say that my CP decks are one big ball of meta-hate, haha! If I can make meta-hate work, then I should have no trouble steamrolling people...but CP has proven to be a VERY slow deck to win with (if you win at all), and I'm still trying to craft something that'll win AND keep opponents on their toes.

I appreciate your modifications, and will likely give them a try sometime. If only I was able to play Netrunner against my friends more than once a week...sigh.

Yeah, I figured some of it might be silver bullets for DLR Val. If that's the case though, why not go with The All-Seeing I?
