West Side Kimmy - First Place at Portland World's

Saan 3111

Unlike my Gagarin deck which I've been working on for a couple months, I threw this together literally the night before the tournament. I expected it to be terrible, but it actually did just fine. There's probably all sorts of improvements to be made (like not playing Edward Kim! Hah!), but it's a first draft.

Hammer that HQ

One of the only times it actually matters if you trash an operation is if you trashed it from HQ. Trashing them off R&D makes the corp not get it, sure, but not drawing a card doesn't actually impact the corp. It's effectively the same scenario as if it was on the bottom of their deck. However, if you trash it from HQ, they've already drawn it. Now if you trash it it's like they never drew a card last turn, which actually hurts their tempo.

With this in mind, I decided I'd model the deck around something another player I know came up with. HQ Interface and Gang Sign is a combo that most people know out of Leela, but works at least okay in Eddy as well. You not only get shots at potential agendas if they have multiples, but you also get additional shots at their operations. Right now this is increasingly relevant with all the NBN murder decks out there. Just pick the pieces out of their hand one by one to neuter them. If they still manage a kill, you've at least got the 3 I've Had Worse to fall back on.

Hammer that R&D

Okay, I'd like to add another Medium in somewhere. Another time Edward Kim's ability is relevant is on R&D digs with Medium, because it allows you to access more cards the next time you go in. Finding Medium feels really, really good, so having another to make the good times roll sooner is something I want to find room for if I want to continue with this deck. Plus, double Medium digs are just super scary for the corp, and you just can't do that with one of them. I might actually drop a Liberated Account for it; it's a good card, but once Faust comes out, it's usually just Faust fodder. I could also maybe drop to only 1 D4v1d, since Faust can still break everything D4v1d can, but you don't want to run through things like Tollbooth or Assassin multiple times with Faust; it just feels bad. I'll have to play around with it and see.

Hammer those Remotes

Okay, so there's not much here that makes remote hammering that much more appealing than other anarch decks, but I just wanted a header for it.

Imp obviously makes remote play more palatable, since free trashes are always better than payed trashes. It also can thin out the hand when you hit HQ, making multiple runs able to see more cards, as well as enables you to trash pesky ICE off R&D on those Medium digs so you get more the next time you run in.

Faust is obviously a real hero for anarchs. Being able to threaten the scoring remote with nothing more than the cards in your hand is really amazing. Really, the success I had in this tournament is a testament to how good Faust is. Edward Kim is probably the lowest impact anarch runner, but with Faust he's still kinda okay.

Wrap-up

Basically I didn't expect to win with this deck, I just kinda did. Run Faust, kids, it can even lead Edward Kim to victory.
