F*** You I'm Famous - 2nd Place at Argentina Open 2015

Windave 280

Well, we finally had our biggest tournament since we started running our little netrunner community in Argentina (a place where the cards aren't so easy to get and we don't get any official support from FFG). We had 19 persons participating, so we did 4 rounds of swiss and a top 4 double elimination. I placed 2nd with this deck and a Jinteki Biotech.

This is a pretty standard MaxX Eater build but with a personal touch that I love mechanically and thematically: Notoriety. I think Notoriety is great because sometimes the last agenda is hard to get (specifically versus RP) and Eater can make the runs easier to score it. You can either score it early after you Siphon or Keyhole, or you can score it late to finish the game. You can even grab it from your heap, if it will give you the win, and see the corp go nervous trying to defend centrals even more, but it's obviusly best to have it unseen in your grip. Thematically I love Notoriety because I think an ultra tagged MaxX has to be famous in some way (as the Data and Destiny card "Reality Threedee" already shown us: F**K YOU NBN!)

This deck won 3 and lost 1 in swiss. Then it won the first match of the double elimination but lost the final match versus the current and three times champion, the great Durín. In fact, the only two matches this deck lost was versus Durín and his amazingly good piloted NEH Butcher.

It was an amazing experience, I learned so much. I felt myself how after you played 9 matches your mind starts to get tired, and with all the nervous of having reached that far you start to reason wrong or hurried and you end up making a lot of mistakes that, after playing the match or after a few seconds you cannot believe you actually did them (like using that Knifed on an UNREZZED Eli, how could you do that?!).

I wish our community can keep growing and having lots of tournaments like this one, and someday we could have official support from FFG too.

Cheers!

Saludos!

The problem I see with Notoriety in MaxX: Maximum Punk Rock is that it can become telegraphed. I think where Notoriety shines is when it is not expected. In MaxX, odds are the corp will see it go to archives and you will have to retrieve it with Déjà Vu giving him a hance to adjust and make it tougher on tou to succeed.

That being said, congratz on the 2nd place finish!

Thanks for the comment Alternity, while it is true that a telegraphed Notoriety will be hard to score, with Eater sometimes you will still be able to score it if you get the credits, and if it's the last point, it is worth it.

Have you thought about using Quest Completed instead? Mitigates the inability to threaten remotes and potentially allows you to score 3 pts instead of 1 from Notoriety

I tried Quest Completed, I really like that event, but I found that it is too situational and most of the time they already Installed double advance and you don't have it, or you have it in the heap and you just don't have time to bring it back and use it. And if you deja vu it just in case, the corp will know and will try to bait you with 3 advancement agendas. Notoriety is much more flexible, while singularity can deal with a remote
