Deadly Giraffes (SC Winner Coolstuff Games Maitland Florida)

This was my corp deck I brought to store championships on February 28th 2015. It went undefeated in four rounds of swiss in a tournament of 25 players. I had 3 wins by agenda points and one flatline. My runner lost a single game which netted me the highest prestige of the day. For my runner I played the prepaid Kate deck by Bewnt below:

The goal of the deck is to try to outpace the runner in terms of economy with celeberity gift, SanSan and asset econ and fast advancing to pressure the runner into letting me play Midseasons against them which lets me win one of two ways. Either by flatline, via Scorched Earth and Traffic Accident or by using Psychographics to easily finish out the game with agenda points. Traffic accident is basically my third Scorch that only costs a single influence and no credits to use. It also has the bonus that it is more effective against I've Had Worse when followed by a Scorch than simply playing two Scorched Earths.

Scoring out with Psychographics is made easy when the runner has 5+ tags. You can score either a Beale or Market research from hand for 3 points each and getting four points as NBN is fairly easy already with AstroScripts and SanSan. And of course if for some reason you are in an extremely strong economic situation compared to the runner you can always go for the 7 point beale with 13 advancement counters.

The ice is pretty standard NEH stuff: Pop-up Windows, Quandarys, Enigmas, Wraparounds and Eli's. For my sentries I brought a pair of Data Ravens which are amazing for this kind of deck. When the runner is trying to stay tag free who wants to go through a data raven to trash a SanSan or for a random rnd access?

The agendas are fairly typical except switching out 2 Breaking News for 1 Market Research. The reason for this is mostly to make room for all the operations this deck plays but also it really helps to finish out the game when you have another agenda you can psycho out for 3 points. It has been fairly typical in my experience to have 4 points then have a turn where I can land a 5-6 tag Midseasons then psychographics out a Beale or Market Research for the win.

I'd find room for 1xFast Track, as it's an easy way to close out a game (Fast Track>install agenda>Psycho).

@Kroen I think that is totally something worth exploring. I definitely found myself in situations when I could win as long as I drew an agenda and being able to tutor a Beale or Market Research for those last three points could be strong.

err ... Is there any particular reason for playing Traffic Accident and you don't play any other O&C cards?

Also, just a suggestion, remove the Eli 1.0 and a Traffic Accident , get in 2x Snare! and protect your SanSan City Grid grid with it.

@Dydra I can't imagine any other O&C cards doing any work here. This is a midseasons deck, and Traffic Accident coupled with Scorches makes perfect sense to me.

Also, it seems like Sansan doesn't need too much protection. He's trying to maintain economic advantage, and a 5 credit swing is nothing to scoff at. Snare could help with the flatline, but I think its influence is too steep given how tight that influence is.

Do you not find Celebrity Gift at odds with a Midseason Replacements strategy? What sort of hand are you willing to reveal? For example, if you've got an Agenda and Midseasons, would you reveal that? Would you reveal if you also had a Scorch? Does showing them the Midseasons play make them nervous to try to steal the points?

@PaxCeciliaIn general I don't find them at odds. I am totally okay showing them what my deck hopes to accomplish if it means pulling ahead of them economically. That said, if I have infinitely more money than the runner and I suspect they have yet to figure out what I am doing I may wait. It's also great for surprise s. You can use your first two clicks to use Celebrity Gift then slam them with midseasons.

As for your example I am totally okay showing agendas, Midseasons or Scortches. I want them to steal an agenda so I can use my game winning operations. A lot of the time I will even put out a naked NAPD if I am all set up and put them in a position to let me score 2 points or for them to take a Midseasons. That said, it's very important to not give away agendas early in the game if it won't lead to Midseasons. If the runner has 6 points and 0 tags it's very hard to win.

Ohh yeah! That would be very clever. If they know you have Midseasons but not Celebrity Gift, they might be more inclined to steal an Agenda if they think you can't afford a lot of tags. I think I understand how to play it a bit better. Thanks for the comments.

I'm a little worried about the low Ice count, but admittedly I don't play NEH very often so I always underestimate the draw power of the ID.

@PaxCecilia Glad it helped! Getting at least one ETR ice is definitely something to mulligan for. But yeah, the draw power of NEH will generally give you at least 2 ice in the first 2 turns but don't be afraid to use actual s to draw either.
