The Origin of Species v0.3

dodgepong 1796

This deck can make really efficient runs with breakers that don't need to boost strength in conjunction with e3 Feedback Implants. It is extremely resilient to virus purging to the point where I didn't even bother including Festers.

Mulligan for Darwin or Djinn, and ideally econ.

Hivemind goes on Progenitor 1, Chakana on Progenitor 2, Darwin on Progenitor 3 if you have the chance. Hivemind is the most important one; just chill and wait for the second Progenitor and tutor for Chakana with Djinn when it shows up. In the meantime, use Cyberfeeder/Spinal Modem to feed Darwin up to at least strength 4, and with D4v1d you can get in anywhere. Use Mimic for anti-Swordsman (be careful against Jinteki!). Kati Jones and Data Folding can keep econ going through to the late game.

If corp purges, feed Darwin and use your first to move a Virus Breeding Ground token to Hivemind, and you're basically back in business. Chakana (on Progenitor) is back to 3, Darwin is at 3 (4 if on Progenitor), and Medium/Nerve Agent see 3 each.

Keep an eye on MU usage and host Medium/Nerve Agent/D4v1d on Djinn to keep Data Folding online. Once you have Spinal Modem out, you can have Djinn, Darwin, and Mimic installed and you're MU is just fine. If you get Darwin on a Progenitor, then you're even better.

Issues that need fixing:

  • Speed: Once the rig is set up, it's great, but so far I've been having a few issues with setup speed. If you can't get both a Djinn and econ early, prepare for a lot of draws. I replaced Net Celebrity for Express Delivery to hopefully help with this, but I haven't tested it yet. I also haven't really figure out when to use I've Had Worse to draw, since I'm always scared of damage. Fortunately Chakana slows down fast advance to give me some more time.

  • Recovery from Program Trashing: Power Shutdown for 0 turns off one of the Progenitors, and thus either the Hivemind or Chakana, so that's something I'm concerned about. Also, if I can't get the Mimic, I need to be able to recover from a Swordsman hit. In a game last night, I face-checked a Swordsman without my Mimic out and lost the first Darwin to the program trash and the second Darwin out of hand to the net damage, and the Déjà Vu was gone earlier in the game and both Clone Chips were on the bottom of the deck, so that was bad. I just added another Déjà Vu instead of MemStrips to help with this, since I found I wasn't having as many MU problems as I thought I would, given Data Folding, so hopefully that will help.

Ideas:

  • Showing Off: This deck can get some crazy multi-access with Medium + Hivemind, so Showing Off could make it even better. Works great against Daily Business Show. Not sure what I would cut, though. Maybe a Parasite, now that I have more recursion with Déjà Vu?

  • Deep Thought: because LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Well...well.... I got really intrigued by your deck! Ok, so I would include Day Job for some burst economy, instead of Lucky Find. That will free some influence, and you could get Quality Time instead of express delivery. Inject is also a really good choice, beacuse it provides the best "Quality card draw + money" per click in the game. I hope that helps with accelerating your Rig. Also, have your thought about this deck on Noise?

I'm hesitant to use Inject because I don't want to trash my important 1-of viruses (Hivemind, Medium, Nerve Agent, and Chakana) as I don't have a lot of ways to recur them. Noise was on option, yes, but I don't install enough viruses to take advantage of his ability. Quetzal makes a lot more sense since I'm running e3 anyway. Noise is a runner that doesn't really run a lot, and I don't find that terribly exciting.

Quality Time instead of Express Delivery isn't a bad idea, as they are both 1 influence. I did trade 1 Lucky Find for another Clone Chip, and I think I'm going to experiment with keeping a Parasite in the heap with a Clone Chip out to deal with Swordsman, because a 2-virus Hivemind will allow Parasite to kill Swordsman immediately. Thus, Quality Time might help get that Parasite into the heap to begin with.

"Noise is a runner that doesn't really run a lot, and I don't find that terribly exciting."

This is true for a lot of Noise decks but not nessesarily true of all Noise. His ability actually allows full on pressure to all central servers and causes ice to be thin everywhere because of it. Running often is actually easier with Noise than anyone else but that's not a discussion for here.

I like this deck a lot. You're getting great use out of Hivemind and making 1/3 of all ice basically blank by just being Q.

Lucky Find's influence could probably stand to be something else and become Day Job. Have you considered Scavenge? You could Inject some cards and turn a used up David into a new one or get something you accidentally self milled back on the table for cheap.
